
PLAFOND | early modern texts on mural painting
is a web-based anthology of historical texts on artistic theory and practice; techniques (fresco, tempera, oil painting); instruments (scaffolding, masonry tools, brushes, palettes, tools for preparing colours); and materials (lime, sand, pigments, binders); as well as perspective projection (quadratura), iconography, and the history of early modern European mural painting. The collection includes excerpts from treatises, recipe books, dictionaries and encyclopaedias, scholarly journals and magazines, and archival sources produced between the 15th and 19th centuries.
